We know exactly what you’re going through. We know what it feels like to stare at the ceiling night after night for hours on end, tossing and turning, counting sheep, regulating our breathing, downloading all the apps, desperately trying anything to bring sleep.
dreamt was developed by our Chief Scientific Officer, Carolina Vazquez Mitchell, an esteemed cannabis scientist who is one of the 100 million people nationwide that report having difficulty sleeping. While she rarely used cannabis recreationally, Carolina found potential in the emerging scientific evidence supporting the plant’s effectiveness at inducing sleep with minimal side effects.
“My insomnia was chronic and hugely debilitating,” explains Carolina, who first started using cannabis for sleep during her PhD studies at USC. “I was very resistant to using pharmaceutical sleep aids, though the more I researched cannabis the more I came to understand its potential as a safe alternative. But I found flower unpredictable and it negatively impacted my breathing and thus my athletic performance. The existing cannabis vapes and edibles labelled for sleep didn’t help me, and the published research didn’t support their claims.”
After using a mixture of cannabis extract, terpenes, melatonin and valerian root supplements, Carolina started developing a formula which brought these compounds together synergistically. Her aim was to create a safe, natural sleep aid that could put her to sleep quickly and keep her asleep for a full night without respiratory problems.
Carolina refined the formula to maximize speed of onset and length of effectiveness, mimicking the characteristics of both inhalants (rapid onset) and edibles metabolized by the liver (slow release). The result is the culmination of her years of research in chemistry, extensive experience in cannabis science, and her daily battle with insomnia.
To date, Carolina has developed more than 50 products for some of the most well-known and widely respected cannabis brands in the industry. She continues to use dreamt to treat her insomnia.
